Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is celebrating the five-year anniversary of its FPL EVolution® public charging program, which has helped expand Florida’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with holistic solutions that support EV adoption and increase range confidence. FPL EVolution’s public, home and commercial charging solutions are among the program's offerings.

The FPL EVolution public charging program has supported the installation of more than 200 combined Level 2 and fast charging sites throughout the state, making more than 1,000 ports available to EV drivers looking to charge on the go. By the end of 2024, FPL expects to significantly increase the number of fast charging sites available to customers.

These fast charging sites can recharge most EV batteries in about 30 minutes, and many are located on high-traffic roadways, including highways like Florida’s Turnpike, I-95 and other major east-west thoroughfares. According to FPL, drivers can find a charging station every 30-50 miles. This is all part of FPL’s mission to make EV charging quick, easy, and accessible. In addition to heavily utilized highway locations, FPL also installs public charging in underserved communities and rural areas where no other charging infrastructure exists – a major benefit during hurricane evacuations.

Locating charging stations is a breeze for customers with the FPL EVolution app, which helps drivers find and navigate to the nearest charging station, check port availability and discover nearby amenities. An interactive map also is available on FPL’s website.

“The expansion of our FPL EVolution public charging network and our home charging program is part of our ongoing commitment to help meet our customers’ growing demand for innovative technology,” said Crystal Stiles, FPL executive director of development, distributed technologies, and mobility. "Our investments in holistic charging solutions, and the ability for EV drivers to plug into one of America's most reliable energy grids, ensures we are giving them range confidence as our state continues to expand EV ownership.”

FPL is a member of the National Electric Highway Coalition, a coalition of more than 60 electric companies committed to providing EV fast charging stations that will allow the public to drive EVs with confidence along major U.S. travel corridors.
